My Philosophy For Teaching

Over the last three years my teaching philosophy has changed a great deal. I have learned a lot about different aspects of teaching that I didn't know about before. My philosophy encompasses some major roles; communication, professionalism, respect, and individual differences. I am sure over the next couple if years, with more experience my philosophy will continue to change and evolve. Communication is one of the most important aspects of teaching. A teacher has to maintain good communication between the parents, students and staff members. It is important to make sure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to someone's education. If everyone knows what is happening at each moment then it is easier to work together as a team and complete the given tasks either at school or home if needed. I believe that it is important to try and get the parents involved as much as possible with the students learning. Professionalism is another aspect of teaching that is important. In order for the classroom to run smoothly, a teacher needs to prepare everything ahead of time and be ready for problems and the unexpected. It is important to be on time a model proper behavior to those around. In order to assure proper learning respect becomes an important factor. The students need to respect the teacher and what he/she does, and the teacher also has to show respect for the students. As a teacher it is important to show firmness, but you have to be able to communicate with the students and show that you have things in common to gain some respect, therefore at some level you have to be their friend. A teacher is faced with 30 students each year, it is important to remember that each student is different and that no one is the same. From the very beginning it is important to make sure that the students have shared their interests and that the teacher takes them into consideration when planning lessons. Each student learns a differently and when the topic of discussion interests them it becomes easier for them to pay attention. Elementary school is a fun time, and the teachers are there to make it the most interesting time of a students life since this is where it all begins.
